Some Homes Condemned Following Raw Sewage Leak On Long Island’s South Shore

Contractor: 'Stinks. You Can Smell The Sewage In It'

newyork.cbslocal.com - November 12, 2012

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – As the clean-up from superstorm Sandy continues, there is a new environmental concern that has sprouted up in some towns along the South Shore of Long Island.

The storm churned up debris, gasoline, home heating oil and other hazardous materials. Many homes and waterways were also inundated with raw sewage.

“They are neither addressing or acknowledging that raw sewage ran through our homes.

Sanitation - Showers

submitted by Eric Wittenberg

Dennis and I met with Mike yesterday to discuss the porta-San placement among other things. As They have flushing toilets on their block, their top ask was for a hot shower. Mike had mentioned propane fired showers, specifically Zodi, which could be run off of a fireplug tap, used biodegradable soap and drain through a channel dug along street to city drains.  Look at the basic camp shower here as well as the hazmat shower.  Something we should keep in mind for each neighborhood of we don't receive trailers with built in showers soon... Each community could build wooden, hard foam etc stalls fairly easily, again with precut parts and help from an engineer
