Taalman Koch Architecture is a collaborative architecture firm based in Los Angeles co-founded by Linda Taalman and Alan Koch.

The IT HOUSE follows a model called “just in time fabrication”. Component parts are fabricated to order and shipped disassembled to the building site directly from each of our manufacturing partners. Parts arrive pre-cut and pre-drilled to our specifications for rapid and foolproof on-site assembly. Component parts are designed to be small and lightweight so that a small crew of as few as two persons can place each part without requiring the disturbance that heavy machinery, large equipment, or cranes would bring to a sensitive building site.

The IT CABIN with its steel platform design allows for a variety of difficult site conditions, including sloping sites and uneven ground conditions. The robust steel frame minimizes structural footings and permits long spans and cantilevers and encourages the inhabitants to have a sympathetic alliance with nature and preserve the natural features of the site in its entirety.

The IT CABIN hybridizes the IT HOUSE components with a steel platform deck that extends down and lightly touches the site. The steel structure supports the lightweight aluminum frame above that spatially frames the panoramic experience of living in nature with all of the luxuries of a high designed efficient modern dwelling.

The IT CABIN components have the same building system flexibility as the IT HOUSE, maximizing site adaptability and integration with a wide range of finish and energy efficient environmental systems for on grid or off-grid locations. Given the flexibility of the building systems, the IT CABIN floor plan layout is highly customizable and can be configured to work with any site.
