Food donations needed for Community College distributions in affected areas

Primary tabs

Kingsborough Community College faculty and staff organized today to prepare to meet the needs of our 16,000 students who return to our campus on Jamaica Bay (in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn) tomorrow. Our students, a diverse, multi-lingual population from many of the worst affected areas, esp. Staten Island; low-lying and shorefront Brooklyn and Queens; Sheepshead Bay, Brighton, Coney Island, Mill Basin, Canarsie, Flatlands, East New York and the Rockaways, are a strategic link to a vulnerable and highly functioning group of affected individuals and families.

Our newly-formed KCC Community Food Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/423050817761714/) is available to arrange receipt (with confirmation for in-kind donation purposes) and distribution through established and effective channels.

We can make excellent and immediate use of perishable, fresh foods to be prepared by our Culinary Arts program in our kitchens for students; we also hope to restock our food pantry with canned goods; non-perishables; formula; basic household needs and the like. We know our staff, faculty and students have been hit hard; we know many of them will come to school cold and hungry.

If you need a different way to reach those affected by Sandy, and to know that the goods will be used, this is an opportunity. Donations by check, as well as in kind, can be made to our foundation, earmarked for Sandy Relief. http://www.kingsborough.edu/sub-about/Pages/FoundationandBoardMembers.aspx
