Resilience Education - NY

The mission of the Resilience Education working group is to study resilience education needs and implement resilience education programs in the Rockaways and more broadly in New York.  The Resilience Education working group is starting with the provision of a centralized online location for archiving education documents and video based on health, safety and mold remediation for training best practices to contractors, volunteers, building owners, and residents, who will be operating in post-Sandy effected areas of New York.

69. Breezy Point (Gateway National Recreation Area)

Had you planned a visit to Breezy Point before the Civil War you would have been in for a surprise. It did not exist! All the land west of the vicinity of Jacob Riis Park has formed within a little more than a century (Figure 184). This is largely because of the construction of a groin field to protect the beaches at Fort Tilden, and the placement of the Breezy Point jetty to prevent the filling of Rockaway Inlet. The sand has been contributed naturally by the westward longshore drift along the south shore of Long Island, particularly the Rockaway barrier island and sources offshore.

ASPCA Opened a Temporary Emergency Pet Boarding Facility

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the ASPCA has opened a temporary, emergency pet boarding facility. Pet owners who are currently unable to care for their animals due to Hurricane Sandy can place them in this temporary boarding facility, now through Monday, December 17. Intake hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
You can visit your pet daily and pick up at any time!
