Hello All,
Minutes from our general meeting on July 24th are attached.
Here are some important pre-weekend updates:
The first of three LTRO sponsored help fairs is tomorrow, Saturday, July 27th from 10am-2pm at Home Depot, 2750 Veterans Rd. W.FEMA individual assistance, disaster case management, World Renew, Red Cross, Project Hope, Single Stop, and many others will be offering services. There will also be a DJ and hot dogs! Councilman Ignizio will be stopping in from 10am-11am.
Our World Renew team has already been diligently conducting a needs assessment survey around the island. LTRO members will be asked to respond to ‘immediate need’ cases as they are discovered. Residents with remaining recovery needs can connect with World Renew at the HUBS and resource centers listed in the attached flyer.
The Coming Back Stronger Workshop on resources and incentives for businesses has been moved to Tuesday, July 30th from 6-8:30pm at New Dorp High School. The first 50 attendees will receive a free one year of identity theft protection. Attendees will be entered into a drawing for a grant for a free website or tech marketing package for a business affected by hurricane Sandy. English and Russian flyers are attached.
NIA’s certified counseling specialists are offering free individual and group counseling sessions and post-trauma care workshops. See attached flyer for more details.

I would like to invite everyone to help BUILD OUR DREAM PLAYGROUND for kids affected by Hurricane Sandy on Saturday, July 27, between 8 am and 3 pm, at the Staten Island Mental Health Society’s main campus, 669 Castleton Avenue.
The Staten Island Mental Health Society has been selected by the non-profit KaBOOM! and the underwriter BNP Paribas to acquire this new state-of-the-art playground. Designed by our Day Treatment children, the playground will replace the existing 30-year-old play space. What’s even more exciting is that it will be built by more than 200 volunteers, led by one of KaBOOM!’s professional installers, and will be completed in one day, rain or shine!
We hope you will join us on Build Day: Saturday, July 27, between 8 am for the kickoff ceremony and 3 pm for the ribbon-cutting, at the Staten Island Mental Health Society, 669 Castleton Avenue. There will be food (breakfast and barbeque lunch), live entertainment and many kids activities and playground projects throughout the day for all.
If you are interested in volunteering to help build, please register using the link below.
Copy and paste the link below into your browser to register on line. Be sure to register each adult separately and don’t forget to include children (if they are attending) and T-Shirt sizes for all!
